Set in Modesto, California, in 1962, this collage follows the fortunes of four buddies (Ron Howard, Richard Dreyfuss, Paul LeMat, Charles Martin Smith) over a 12-hour period one warm summer night — the night before two of them are to go away to college in the East. Shot in 28 days at a cost of $750,000 — more than $90,000 of which was spent on rights for the music — George Lucas’ second feature is one of the key films of the Seventies. The cast includes Candy Clark, Cindy Williams, Mackenzie Phillips and Harrison Ford.
