Policy on Network Passwords

Students, faculty and staff are required to change their network password at least annually. Learning and Technology Services will provide notification at three intervals (30 days, 10 days, and 1 day) prior to the expiration of a password.

(Learning and Technology Services does not track or record user passwords; we track change dates only.)

Password Requirements

  • Passwords must be changed at least annually
  • You may not use a password that you have previously used on the UW-Eau Claire network
  • Passwords must be at least 8 characters long
  • Passwords must include any 3 of the following:
    • At least one uppercase letter: A - Z
    • At least one lowercase letter: a - z
    • At least one digit: 0 - 9
    • At least one special character:
      ~ ` @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) + = \ | [ ] { } ? < >
