ADA compliant technology & services
Services
- Assistance with retrieving materials is available at the Circulation Desk.
- New security gates are ADA compliant for easy accessibility.
- We attempt to make the library’s Web site ADA compliant. If disabled patrons experience difficulties using any section of it, they should contact the library Webmaster.
- Public photocopiers are ADA compliant and will accept either Blugold cards or coins in payment. Photocopies can also be made through the Photocopy Service in the Periodicals Area on the second floor. We attempt to provide on-demand service unless the library is closed. The guaranteed turn-around time is 24 hours.
- The coin changer on the second floor, next to the elevators, is wheelchair accessible. It will make change for either $1 or $5 bills.
Equipment
- Speakeasy Machine scans text and reads it back to the user. Patrons can check out earphones for use with the Speakeasy machine at the library's Circulation Desk and ask for assistance in its use at the Reference/Government Publications Desk. The Speakeasy machine is located on the first floor in the Adaptive Technology Center.
- Aladdin Pro Reader CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) for visually impaired readers, enlarges text, images, and objects and has a number of special features that allow learning disabled or visually-impaired users to focus on a single line or restricted area. The Aladdin Pro Reader is located on the first floor in the Adaptive Technology Center.
- Workstations: motorized, fully-adjustable workstations for wheelchair access are located in Reference and in the IMC.
Software
- Dragon Naturally Speaking voice recognition software in L 3038. The key to L 3038 can be checked out from the Circulation Desk.
- ZoomText Xtra to meet the needs of the visually impaired, ZoomText includes screen magnification and screen reading with DocReader - a full-screen environment for reading text from any Windows application. Patrons can check out earphones at the library's Circulation Desk and ask for assistance at the Reference Desk. ZoomText is loaded on the workstation located on the first floor in the Adaptive Technology Center.
