Theatre Arts

The UW-Eau Claire theatre arts program emphasizes a well-rounded curriculum that offers students a strong academic foundation alongside practical, pre-professional hands-on experiences. The curriculum integrates historical perspectives and contemporary understanding of all of the collaborative components of the art form and a working knowledge of how those components work together to reflect human values, experiences and accomplishments. Students emerge from the program with strong communication, leadership, and creative problem solving skills, as well as a foundation for graduate study or professional work in theatre. In addition to course offerings, students actively participate in production work in such areas as Acting, Directing, Design, Stage Management, Playwriting, and Technical Theatre. Practical experience is supported by a dynamic faculty who work closely with students and are active in their fields of expertise. The department produces an active season that includes four main-stage productions, a theatre for youth touring production, a student-directed short play festival and a dance concert produced in facilities with state-of-the-art equipment. Our comprehensive theatre seasons expose students to a full range of styles, genres, and periods, including comedy, tragedy, and musical theatre. Opportunities for involvement in productions are open to all UW-Eau Claire students.
