EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire alumna Cara Shimon, a native of Emerald, is the 2012 UW-Eau Claire College of Business Outstanding Undergraduate Student. Shimon, who graduated magna cum laude from the university in December 2011, was selected by business faculty and staff out of a pool of students who graduated in August 2011 and December 2011 and who will graduate in May 2012.
"Cara Shimon was one of those students who was involved in everything," said Theresa Wells, senior lecturer of management. Wells taught several of Shimon's operations management classes and advised the student chapter of the Association for Operations Management (APICS), in which Shimon was actively involved.
"Not only did Cara excel in the classroom, at her internship and through her involvement in multiple student groups, but she also is a warm, caring woman," Wells said.
Shimon's leadership roles included those in APICS, Alpha Xi Delta and DECA. She was a resident assistant for Housing and Residence Life, a campus ambassador for Admissions and a student building manager for Davies Center.
She also participated in the Civil Rights Pilgrimage, studied at Ajou University in South Korea and was the lead intern for the Blugold Beginnings program. Shimon was named the December 2011 UW-Eau Claire Outstanding Management Major by management faculty, and was selected to deliver a speech at the December 2011 morning commencement ceremony.
She is currently an optimized operations supply chain analyst for 3M in Alexandria, Minn.
Shimon was recognized by the UW-Eau Claire Alumni Association, Foundation and University Centers Office of Activities, Involvement and Leadership at the 2012 University Student Excellence Awards reception May 2.
