SUBJECT: UW-Eau Claire students to be Freedom Honor Flight guardians May 12
Two UW-Eau Claire student veterans will serve as guardians May 12 on a Freedom Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., to visit memorials that stand in their honor.
Nicholas Bures, a U.S. Army National Guard veteran and sophomore political science major from Deerbrook, and Loreen O'Brien, a U.S. Navy veteran and sophomore environmental public health major from Alma Center, will assist older veterans on the one-day trip that will include spending several hours at the World War II Memorial and visiting other Washington D.C., landmarks such as the Korean War Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, the Marine Corps War Memorial and others as time permits.
Bures and O'Brien's expenses for the trip are being paid with funds from a UW-Extension Adult Friendly Institution Incentive Plan award received by UW-Eau Claire in spring 2010 and from the UW-Eau Claire Foundation.
The students are available to talk to reporters before and after the flight. Nicholas Bures can be reached at 715-219-0838 or firstname.lastname@example.org, and Loreen O'Brien can be reached at 715-579-3669 or email@example.com.
