To qualify, students must be a criminal justice major in good academic standing with at least 60 earned credits.
"Matt was chosen as the award recipient based on the strength of his resume and his letter expressing his interest in a law enforcement career," said Dr. Randall Beger, professor of criminal justice.
Mielke said he is thankful for the scholarship.
"I know there were quite a few people who also sent in essays, and I know those were also very well done so to stand out among those other essays is an honor," Mielke said.
Mielke said he is considering graduate school, but first wants to gain work experience and try new opportunities.
The Criminal Justice Scholarship is supported by the Eau Claire Professional Police Benevolent Association.
