Sale of furnishings, other items from old Davies Center set for May 30-June 1May 22, 2012
EAU CLAIRE — Furnishings, cabinetry and various pieces of equipment from the soon-to-be deconstructed Davies Center will be available for purchase during a surplus sale later this month at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
The sale will run from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. May 30-June 1 in the first-floor dining areas of Davies Center. Cash, checks or credit cards will be accepted. The sale is open to the public.
Public parking for the sale will be available in the parking lot behind Phillips Science Hall. Sale visitors should enter the old Davies Center through the doors located on the southeast side of the building to the right of the loading dock.
Items for sale will include meeting room chairs and tables, food service equipment and tables, audiovisual equipment, office and lounge furniture, cabinetry, computers and signage.
For more information about the sale, contact Chris Buckley at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The public sale comes as UW-Eau Claire begins saying goodbye to its 53-year-old student center and prepares to open its new W.R. Davies Student Center in late July.
The old Davies Center will be closed to students and the general public as of the end of business hours May 25. The first floor will reopen only for the three-day surplus sale.
This week crews began demolition of the building's east entrance, north-northeast ramped entrance and canopy, and tunnel/breezeway leading to Schofield Hall. The building's only entrance and exit point is now the south-facing doors on the east end.
During the first three weeks in June, offices housed in the old building will be moved to the new building. Demolition of the old Davies Center's main structure will begin June 22.
The new Davies Center is expected to be completed in late June. It will be opened to students and the public in late July.
A grand opening celebration for the new Davies Center will be held during UW-Eau Claire's homecoming weekend, Sept. 28-30.
