Viennese Ball ticket order forms available Feb. 1January 18, 2013
EAU CLAIRE — The 39th annual Viennese Ball — the first to be held in the new W.R. Davies Student Center — will be presented April 12-13 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The doors of Davies Center will open at 6:30 p.m. The largest Viennese ball outside of Vienna itself, the event is presented in duplicate each evening and is a much-anticipated fundraiser for music, service and international study scholarships for UW-Eau Claire students.
Ticket brochures will be mailed the first week of February, and a printable ticket order form also will be available online at 3 p.m. Feb. 1. Ticket orders must be submitted by U.S. Mail. If ticket requests exceed availability, orders will be returned.
The Viennese Ball is a formal event recalling the romance and elegance of 19th-century Vienna, Austria. Modeled on the historic New Year's Eve Kaiser Ball, the event will transform all three levels of the new Davies Center. The ball showcases the University Symphony Orchestra, performing waltzes and polkas from the Strauss Era; Jazz Ensemble I, performing music from America's Big Band Era; and student and faculty ensembles as well as regional musicians performing a variety of repertoire.
Guests may waltz in the grand ballroom, swing dance to Big Band standards, polka in the informal festival hall, sing along in the two-level piano bar, shop in the Edelweiss Market and hear showcase performances on the Bösendorfer Imperial Grand Piano. The menu of Austrian and American cuisine includes soups, cheeses, sandwiches and Austrian-style entrees tailored to the event, tortes and cheesecakes, sparkling wine, Austrian beers and American-style bar service.
Tickets are $42.50 for the public or $27.50 for UW System, Chippewa Valley Technical College and high school students. The traditional midnight breakfast is $10 in advance or $11 at the ball.
The Annual Viennese Ball is presented by the University Centers in cooperation with the music and theatre arts department and the Center for International Education. A university-community committee and a large team of volunteers work on a variety of setup tasks before the ball. Those interested in volunteering or serving on the committee may call 715-836-3882 or visit the Viennese Ball website.
Wisconsin Public Radio and Chippewa Valley Airport Service provide generous promotional support for the Viennese Ball.
