EAU CLAIRE — An exhibit titled "Masterworks from the Hillstrom Museum of Art" will be on display from Feb. 21-March 14 in the Foster Gallery of the Haas Fine Arts Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. An opening reception will be held from 7:30-9 p.m. Feb. 21 in the gallery.

The exhibit will feature 44 works — primarily prints, drawings and other works on paper — by artists such as George Bellows, Abraham Walkowitz, Grant Wood and John Steuart Curry. The works were selected from the permanent collection at the Hillstrom Museum of Art at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn.

Thomas Wagener, director of the Foster Gallery and one of the show's curators, said the exhibit will show the historical roots of contemporary American art.

"The exhibition allows visitors to view rare works from an exciting time in art history and allows students to explore firsthand many artworks studied throughout their academic career," Olm said.

The works were selected by art & design faculty members to represent the Hillstrom collection and to serve teaching and learning at UW-Eau Claire, Olm said.

Foster Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays, 6-8 p.m. Thursdays and 1-4:30 p.m. weekends.
