EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Viennese Ball gown sale will be held from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. March 5 and 6 in the Dakota Ballroom (Room 340) of Davies Center.
The sale, made possible by Marry-Go-Round Occasions of Strum, will feature a large selection of popular gown styles valued up to $600 but priced from $59 to $99.
The 39th Annual Viennese Ball will be held April 12-13 in Davies Center. Tickets are $42.50 for the public or $27.50 for students, through the Service Center. Ticket order forms are available online and must be submitted via U.S. Mail. No campus mail, walk-up or phone sales will be accepted until March 4.
An evening of dance and romance, the Viennese Ball is a formal event recalling the elegance of 19th-century Austria. Modeled on Vienna's historic New Year's Eve Kaiser Ball, the event is presented in duplicate each evening, transforming Davies Center.
The ball showcases the University Symphony Orchestra, performing waltzes from the Strauss Era; Jazz Ensemble I, performing music from America's Big Band Era; and student and faculty ensembles and regional musicians performing a variety of repertoire from polka to sing-along. Guests also may shop, have a photograph taken, and enjoy a variety of Austrian and American cuisine. Created in 1974, the event has provided more than $1 million in music, service and international study awards for UW-Eau Claire students.
The annual Viennese Ball is presented by the University Centers in cooperation with the music and theatre arts department and the Center for International Education. The 2013 Viennese Ball will be the first to be presented in the new W. R. Davies Student Center.
