Forensics team wins 21st consecutive state championship

EAU CLAIRE — For the 21st year in a row, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire forensics team earned the championship trophy at the Wisconsin State Forensics Tournament, held Feb. 15-16 at UW-Stout.

Seniors Megan McKeown, Eagan, Minn., and Abby Rand, Melrose, placed first and second, respectively, in persuasion, which qualified them to represent the state of Wisconsin at the Interstate Oratory Contest in Shreveport, La., in April.

Four UW-Eau Claire students finished in the top five in individual sweepstakes. Junior Jarrel Montgomery, Madison, placed first; senior Megan McKeown, Eagan, Minn., placed third; sophomore Jake Stendahl, Forest Lake, Minn., placed fourth; and junior Stephen Fong, Shorewood, placed fifth.

Individual results for the tournament are as follows:

Freshman Jake Wrasse, Durand, placed fourth in informative speaking, first in impromptu and third in after-dinner speaking.

Senior Megan Chilman, Le Sueur, Minn., placed third in informative speaking, third in program oral interpretation and sixth in poetry.

Senior Abby Rand, Melrose, placed second in informative speaking, second in communication analysis and second in persuasion.

Junior Stephen Fong, Shorewood, placed first in informative speaking, second in after-dinner speaking and third in communication analysis.

Freshman Heidi Feyereisen, Roberts, placed fifth in persuasion.

Freshman Sara Doege, Saint Charles, Ill., placed fourth in persuasion.

Senior Megan McKeown, Eagan, Minn., placed first in persuasion, third in poetry and fourth in prose interpretation.

Freshman Elijah Freeman, Ladysmith, placed first in communication analysis.

Sophomore Caitlyn Duley, Saint Michael, Minn., placed fifth in after-dinner speaking.

Sophomore Jake Stendahl, Forest Lake, Minn., placed second in prose interpretation, fifth in program oral interpretation and fifth in dramatic interpretation.

Junior Jarrel Montgomery, Madison, placed first in prose interpretation, first in dramatic interpretation, first in program oral interpretation and second in poetry.

Freshman Ben Thompson Isaac, Chaska, Minn., placed fifth in dramatic interpretation.

Senior Megan McKeown, Eagan, Minn., and freshman Ben Thompson Isaac, Chaska, Minn., placed third in duo interpretation.

Junior Jarrel Montgomery, Madison, and sophomore Jake Stendahl, Forest Lake, Minn., placed second in duo interpretation.
