High school mathematics meet results announced

EAU CLAIRE — Thirty-three teams from 14 Wisconsin high schools participated in the 31st annual regional Mathematics Meet Feb. 16 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

The Eau Claire North team, I think therefore i is, took first place in the large school AAA division. The Chippewa Falls team, AlgeBros, placed second.

The Eau Claire North team, sponsored by Pam Kamrath, was composed of Brady Skifstad, Kevin Faanes, Matt Sorensen, Colton Schlosser, Jeremiah Buenger and Madison Schaefer.

Lucy Wang from Eau Claire Memorial took first place in Class AAA individual honors. Wang received a scholarship for four credit hours at UW-Eau Claire. Mackenzie Kilness and Tyler Atchison, both from Chippewa Falls, tied for second place. Kilness and Atchison received a scholarship for three credit hours. Jeremiah Buenger from Eau Claire North and Mitchell Paukner from Chippewa Falls tied for fourth place and received a one-credit-hour scholarship. Brady Skifstad and Colton Schlosser from Eau Claire North and Max Kotov from Eau Claire Memorial tied for sixth place.

The West Salem team, Panther Powers, took first place in the medium school AA division. The Viroqua team, Mathadamia Nuts, placed second.

The West Salem team, sponsored by Chris Milne, consisted of Kyle Lang, Kaitlin Brueggen, Mikaela Hunter and Christian Schran.

In Class AA, Micah Peak from Viroqua and Kyle Lang from West Salem tied for first place. Peak and Lang received a UW-Eau Claire scholarship for four credit hours. Tyler Bentz from Viroqua placed third. Bentz received a two-credit-hour scholarship. Christian Schran from West Salem took fourth place and received a one-credit-hour scholarship. Mike Christianson and Greg Lamb from Aquinas tied for fifth place.

The Eau Claire Regis team, Binary High Fives, won first place in the small school A division. The Binary Sudokus from Eau Claire Regis took second place.

The Eau Claire Regis team, sponsored by Pam Kozuch, was composed of Michael Kozuch, Clare Bergmann, Teresa Kim, Mingjia Chen, Yicheng Zhou and Kristin Mathiwetz.

Mingjia Chen from Eau Claire Regis took first place in the Class A division and received a UW-Eau Claire scholarship for four credit hours. Yicheng Zhou from Eau Claire Regis placed second and received a three-credit-hour scholarship. Kristin Mathiwetz from Eau Claire Regis placed third and received a two-credit-hour scholarship. Teresa Kim from Eau Claire Regis placed fourth and received a one-credit-hour scholarship. Mitchell Petit from Eau Claire Regis placed fifth and Rob Ochs and Yilin Zeng from McDonell High School tied for sixth place.

Scholarships are funded by a grant from Xcel Energy to the UW-Eau Claire mathematics department.
