Foreign language classes for children to be offeredMarch 7, 2013
EAU CLAIRE — The foreign languages and education studies departments at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will host a series of foreign language classes for elementary school students in grades 1-5.
The free language classes will be hosted on campus and taught by UW-Eau Claire students in the Education Studies 437 class, Teaching Foreign Languages.
The classes will be held from 4:10-4:50 p.m. Thursdays in Hibbard Humanities Hall and will run from April 4-May 9. German will be available for students in grades 3-5 and French and Spanish will be available for those in grades 1-5.
Dr. Paul Hoff, professor of Spanish and foreign language education, said the classes have been offered in the spring semester for 39 years and give future teachers experience and spark an interest in language study in children.
"(The classes) provide a practicum experience for UW-Eau Claire students and an enjoyable avenue for area children to experience another language and culture," Hoff said.
Those interested in enrolling a child or children are asked to complete the online registration form by March 29. Enrollment is limited to 12 students per class, so early registration is encouraged.
