EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire sophomore Caitlin Daley has been elected to serve as a student member-at-large on the national council of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society for First-Year Students.

The council, made up of seven professional and three student members, serves as the governing board for the national organization. ALD members must maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher and stay within the top 20 percent of their class during their first year of college.

Daley, an organizational communication and Spanish major from Rochester, Minn., is vice president of UW-Eau Claire's ALD chapter and will serve a three-year term on the organization's national council. She will have a number of responsibilities, including presenting awards at chapters around the country, attending conferences, presenting at leadership conferences and serving on multiple committees.

Daley said she is eager to support ALD's goal of academic excellence for first-year students.

"As a student member-at-large, I hope to uphold this goal and the importance of academic excellence during a student's first year to set the tone for the rest of their university experience," Daley said.

Brian Carlisle, dean of students, said he is proud that Daley will represent UW-Eau Claire on the national council.

"Her role with the national council will be critical, as she will be managing more than $4 million in organizational assets and assisting with the awarding of nearly $200,000 in national scholarships and fellowships annually," Carlisle said. "I know she will represent us with Blugold pride!"

Daley said she is most looking forward to increased national involvement by the ALD chapter at UW-Eau Claire as well as learning from other board members and chapters around the nation.

Daley will officially begin her duties when she is installed at the council's annual meeting in San Francisco in June.
