'Night of the Running Dead' set for April 27March 19, 2013
EAU CLAIRE--The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire communication and journalism department, The Spectator, WUEC-89.7 FM and The Plus (Pizza Plus) restaurant will host "The Night of the Running Dead," a 1½-mile zombie run, at 7:30 p.m. April 27.
The event, which is open to the public, will begin on Towers Field on UW-Eau Claire's upper campus and end at The Plus on Barstow Street in downtown Eau Claire.
Race participants will receive a set of flags to wear during the run. People dressed as zombies will be stationed throughout the route to steal runners' flags. Flags retained by runners at the end of the race can be redeemed for food and prizes at the "Apocalypse After Party" at The Plus.
Advance registration will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. March 25-29 in the lobby of Hibbard Hall and from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. April 1-5 in the lobby of Davies Center. The registration fee is $15 per person for individuals and $10 per person for groups of four or more. Those who register in advance will receive an event T-shirt and a giveaway bag. Participants also may register on Towers Field before the start of the race, but are not guaranteed T-shirts.
Hannah Lagerman, advertising manager for The Spectator, said the event is being held as a way to bring more awareness to campus media and "to have a fun time being chased by zombies!"
