UW-Eau Claire to host Earth Week activities April 17-26

 EAU CLAIRE — In celebration of Earth Week, several University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire organizations will host events from April 17-26:

April 17:

  • Will Allen, a leading authority in the expanding field of urban agriculture, will present "The Good Food Revolution" as part of The Forum series. 7:30 p.m., Schofield Auditorium. More information, including ticket prices.

April 19:

  • Putnam Park garlic mustard pull, 9:15 a.m. Those interested in participating should meet at the end of the UW-Eau Claire footbridge steps on the Schofield Hall side of the river.

April 21:

  • Live music by Cloud Cult and The Heart Pills, 7:30 p.m., Schofield Auditorium. Free for students, just show ID to Service Center.

April 22:

  • Live music by FireFlyForest and Charlie Parr, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Davies Terrace, second floor of Davies Center.
  • Reception for Celebration of Sustainability, 3:30-5 p.m., Ho-Chunk Room, Davies Center.
  • Climate change forum featuring Mike Huggins, citizen engagement facilitator and trainer, former Eau Claire city manager. 7:30 p.m., Eau Claire Room, L.E. Phillips Public Library. More information.
  • Sky lanterns, 9 p.m., UW-Eau Claire footbridge.

April 23:

  • Green Building and LEED certification lecture by LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) expert and educator Theresa Lehman, 4-5 p.m., Room 101, Hibbard Hall.
  • Bike Day workshop, 6 p.m., Environmental Adventure Center, upper campus.
  • Trash Talk: "How to clean and be green," a presentation by Dr. Scott Hartsel,
    UW-Eau Claire professor of chemistry, 6:30 p.m., Towers Hall South social room, upper campus. More information.
  • Karaoke, 7-9 p.m., Higherground.
  • Live music by Eggplant Heroes, 8:30 p.m., The Cabin, Davies Center.

April 24:

  • Henna booth, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., campus mall.
  • Putnam Park trash clean-up, 3 p.m. Meet in Katherine Thomas parking lot.
  • Speaker: Graham Hill, founder of Treehugger.com, 6 p.m., Dakota Room, Davies Center.
  • Sustainability Fashion Show. One student from each residence hall will model a costume created by fellow residents made out of recycled and repurposed materials.The costumes will be judged and the winning residence hall will be presented with a sustainability prize. The show also will feature sculptures out of recyclable materials by students of Jason Lanka, assistant professor of sculpture. 8-9 p.m., Room 210B, McPhee Center.

April 25:

  • Sustainability photo scavenger hunt, 3-5 p.m., Towers Hall lobby. Teams will compete as they track down and photograph different sustainability landmarks on campus. The winners will be rewarded. This event is open to students living in the residence halls.
  • Barbeque, 5-7 p.m., Owen Park.
  • "Earth Days" documentary film, 7 p.m., Woodland Theater, Davies Center.

April 26:

  • Live music by Irie Sol and Granite Rose, 9 p.m., Towers field.

All events are free for students. Event sponsors are the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate, Student Office of Sustainability, Housing and Residence Life, and Residence Hall Association. Additional partners are UW-Eau Claire Greek Life, University Activities Commission and PR Commission of the Student Senate, city of Eau Claire, Environmental Adventure Center and Flipside.
