Global Youth Service Day events set for April 27April 18, 2013
EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's ECLIPSE AmeriCorps program will celebrate Global Youth Service Day April 27 with volunteers working on a variety of projects from 9 a.m-1 p.m. in the Eau Claire community.
Global Youth Service Day is an annual campaign that encourages children through young adults to improve their communities through service and service-learning opportunities. The longest running and largest service event in the world, GYSD involves more than 100 countries and millions of youth.
Approximately 200 students from UW-Eau Claire will volunteer in the community this year as part of the April 27 GYSD celebrations. Organizers are contacting numerous local organizations to see if they can use help from volunteers on Global Youth Service Day.
Sponsors of GYSD include the Corporation for National and Community Service, and Learn and Serve America. The sponsors help support the various projects that Global Youth Service Day targets, including projects that address hunger, the environment, health and safety, education, disaster, human rights and civic engagement.
