EAU CLAIRE — A free outdoor concert by Green Tea on June 10 opens an eight-week series of Summer Events presented by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. After a one-year hiatus due to campus construction and moving to the new W.R. Davies Student Center, the program will feature concerts Mondays at 7 p.m. in the Owen Park bandshell, and outdoor movies on campus Wednesday nights. All events are free and open to the Chippewa Valley community.

A finalist for the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in 2012, Green Tea is known for its indie roots rock sound. With members originating from New York, Washington, Illinois and Wisconsin, the central Wisconsin band offers high-energy shows and a diverse array of instrumentation. Their 2012 album "Wake the Conscious" summarizes their fresh perspective in songwriting.

Other artists featured on the Monday-night concert series are Davey J and the Jones Tones (June 17), Boiled in Lead (June 24), Maudlin (July 1), The Ericksons (July 8), Sue Orfield Band (July 15), Eggplant Heroes (July 22) and Kids from Wisconsin (July 29). Shows run from 7-9 p.m. in the Owen Park bandshell; Davies Center is the rain location.

Absent from the Summer Events schedule since 2007, a series of feature films will begin with "Oz the Great and Powerful" (2013), screening June 12 at 9:30 p.m. on the lawn west of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The PG-rated Disney fantasy stars James Franco as a small-time magician who is swept away to the enchanted land of Oz and is forced into a power struggle between three witches (Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz).

Other Summer Events movies are "Singin' in the Rain" (June 19), "North by Northwest" (June 26), "Lincoln" (July 3), "American Graffiti" (July 10), "Wreck-It Ralph" (July 17), "Rear Window" (July 24) and "42" (July 31). In the event of rain, films will screen in Woodland Theater of Davies Center.

A complete Summer Events schedule is available online. The series is funded by the students of UW-Eau Claire and coordinated by the Activities, Involvement and Leadership office of the University Centers.
