Davies Center receives 'Top Project of 2012' recognition for construction and design

June 10, 2013

spring-daviesEAU CLAIRE — The W.R. Davies Student Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire has been named to the Daily Reporter's "Top Projects of 2012" list, which recognizes the best construction in Wisconsin over the past year.

According to the Daily Reporter's website, the "Top Projects of 2012" list is compiled by a panel of industry judges who base their choices on challenges that were overcome before and during construction, on the benefit communities receive from the projects and on any advancement provided to the construction industry in Wisconsin.

The approximately 170,000-square-foot student center was designed by Stantec and the Wisconsin-based firm Bray Architects. Construction of the new Davies Center began March 7, 2011, and was completed in 2013. Kraemer Brothers LLC of Plain was the single prime contractor for the project.

"This is a wonderful acknowledgement of the quality of our new W.R. Davies Student Center and the recognition reflects on the hard work and effort of all who were involved from the initial concept through completion," said Dr. Beth Hellwig, vice chancellor for student affairs and chair of the Davies Student Center Steering and Building committees. "I hope our students in particular are proud of the outcome as they have paid for the building and helped to create what is in the building.

"Our Steering Committee and Building Committee members worked extremely hard to design an amazing space in collaboration with our design team for the campus and Eau Claire communities. There are countless individuals who made the dream come to reality at UW-Eau Claire. Each person's contributions are very much appreciated."

In keeping with UW-Eau Claire's strategic goals of stewardship and sustainability, the new Davies Center incorporates eco-friendly elements, including a green roof and sustainability standards designed to consume 30 percent less energy than current codes require.
