EAU CLAIRE — An Oct. 19 performance by Volcano Choir at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire has sold out and an Oct. 20 show has been added. The second performance will be at 8 p.m. in Schofield Auditorium.
Tickets for the Oct. 20 show, which also will feature local band Adelyn Rose as the opening act, will be on sale from 7 a.m.-9 p.m. Sept. 5 and 6 at the Service Center in W.R. Davies Student Center only. Beginning Sept. 7, tickets will be available through all UW-Eau Claire ticketing options (including phone and online sales).
Volcano Choir is one of several recent musical collaborations for Justin Vernon, also frontman for the Grammy-Award-winning group Bon Iver and a UW-Eau Claire alumnus.
The Oct. 19 and 20 performances will conclude Volcano Choir's nationwide six-week tour, which will launch Sept. 6 in Chicago following the Sept. 3 release of the group's second album, "Repave."
Volcano Choir, which released its first album,"Unmap," in 2009, is a collaborative project between Vernon and the members of Milwaukee-based Collections of Colonies of Bees. Vernon discussed "Repave" in a recent New York Magazine interview. A review of "Repave" also was published Aug. 29 by Volume One, a Chippewa Valley culture and entertainment publication.
Vernon earned a UW-Eau Claire degree in comparative studies in religion in 2004. In 2012, his group Bon Iver received Grammy Awards in the categories of best new artist and best alternative music album. Bon Iver — which also includes drummer Sean Carey, a 2007 UW-Eau Claire music alumnus — played two sold-out performances in December 2011 in UW-Eau Claire's Zorn Arena. The UW-Eau Claire performances followed sold-out European and North American tours.
