September 26, 2013

TO: News Editors and Directors

FROM: Judy Berthiaume

DATE: Sept. 26, 2013

SUBJECT: Campus experts on U.S.-Iranian relations

Two University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire political science professors who recently co-authored an article on foreign relations between the U.S. and Iran are available to talk with the media.

Dr. Stephen Hill and Dr. Ali Abootalebi teach university classes dealing with world politics, international conflict and U.S. foreign policy. Both share an interest in U.S foreign policy toward Iran.

Dr. Abootalebi was born in Tehran, Iran, and came to the United States in 1977.

The professors' article, "Diplomacy in the Service of Nonkilling: The Imperative for a U.S.-Iranian Rapprochement," was published by the Global Center for Nonkilling.

The article focuses on potential for improved U.S.-Iranian relations.

"The article argues that U.S.-Iranian interests coincide to a large degree, but that achieving a cooperative relationship built on mutual interests requires that the U.S. utilize a coherent and multidimensional strategy," Hill said.

Dr. Hill and Dr. Abootalebi are available to talk with the media.
