Davies Center receives Associated General Contractors 2013 Build Wisconsin AwardOctober 18, 2013
EAU CLAIRE — The W.R. Davies Student Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire has received an Associated General Contractors (AGC) 2013 Build Wisconsin Award for general contractor new construction.
According to the AGC award entry form, Build Wisconsin Award recipients are chosen by a panel of industry professionals that include an architect, engineer, facility owner/manager, city building official and university professor. The awards reflect each contractor's "skill, integrity, hard work, ingenuity and commitment that goes into each construction project."
Kraemer Brothers LLC of Plain was the single prime contractor for the approximately 170,000-square-foot student center, which was designed by Stantec and the Wisconsin-based firm Bray Architects. Construction of the new Davies Center began March 7, 2011, and was completed in 2013.
"It is extremely rewarding to know that our beautiful Davies Student Center has been recognized once again as a great building," said Dr. Beth Hellwig, vice chancellor for student affairs and chair of the Davies Student Center Steering and Building committees. "We thank the AGC for this great honor and appreciate all of our partners who brought the dream of an outstanding building to reality."
In keeping with UW-Eau Claire's strategic goals of stewardship and sustainability, the new Davies Center incorporates eco-friendly elements, including a green roof and sustainability standards designed to consume 30 percent less energy than current codes require.
