EAU CLAIRE —Derek Brehm, a classified staff member at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, recently received a scholarship through the Classified Staff Grant Fund.
Brehm, the Service Center operations manager in UW-Eau Claire's Davies Student Center who is pursuing an MBA through Cardinal Stritch University, was especially grateful to learn that he was this semester's recipient of the $250 scholarship.
"I was excited to learn that I had received this scholarship since I, as many students — both undergraduate and graduate — have difficulties making ends meet," Brehm said. "And while $250 may not seem like a lot, every bit certainly helps."
Brehm, a 2002 UW-Eau Claire alumnus, plans to complete his MBA and graduate in December.
"As the first person in my family to go to college, the fact that I am now a graduate student nearing graduation is very exciting."
The Classified Staff Grant Fund was established by Linda Haag and Susie Warden, who were completing their bachelor's degrees while also working full time at the university. The two women created the fund through the UW-Eau Claire Foundation after completing their degrees, making sure other classified staff members would have similar opportunities.
