 UW System annually announces competitions of interest to faculty and academic staff. Depending on the type of grant program, some system proposals are handled by the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) and some by ORSP.

Under the UW System “Release Time” grant program, a UW-Eau Claire faculty member may request a summer stipend of $3,500. The resulting grant proposal must be a request for more than $50,000. NOTE: Funding is available by fiscal year on a first come, first serve basis.

We recommend, as a back-up, that applicants also apply to the UW-Eau Claire Summer Extramural Grant Development program. Applicants may apply for both ORSP program AND this grant; in that case, both applications should be submitted to ORSP by March 1.

Prototype Development Fund

Open Deadline
This program provides financial assistance for research and development to advance the commercial potential of technologies developed through the UW System and assigned to WiSys Technology Foundation, Inc. To be eligible, the invention must be disclosed to WiSys and WiSys must agree to market the technology. Wisconsin Fertilizer Research

This program supports research projects specific to soil fertility, soil management, or plant nutrition. Projects should be founded on current and future issues of importance to crop producers, the fertilizer industry, and surface/groundwater protection. More information can be found at: http://www.soils.wisc.edu/frc/pi.php#forms

ESEA Wisconsin Improving Teacher Quality

September 27 (Required intent to submit, System Deadline); October 17 (Full proposal, System Deadline); October 10 (Full proposal to ORSP)

This is a competitive grants program for increasing student achievement in the arts, civics and government, economics, English, foreign languages, geography, history, mathematics, reading or language arts, and science, by improving the teaching and principal quality at the K-12 level in Wisconsin's public and private schools. Past awards have ranged from $18,000 to $98,000. NOTE: An "intent to submit" email is required by UW System, due August 17. More information can be found at: http://www.uwsa.edu/acss/esea/.

Wisconsin Alliance for Minority Participation (WiscAMP) Small Grants

WiscAMP is a consortium of 21 colleges and universities throughout Wisconsin. The Small Grants program supports efforts to address retention and persistence of underrepresented minorities in STEM disciplines by expanding and improving on successful models already in place and fostering and sustaining an alliance among UW and other partner institutions. Applied Research Grant & ARG - WiSys Technology Advancement Grant

This program encourages faculty to use their expertise and to apply their scholarship to support the economic development of Wisconsin. The UW System-sponsored Applied Research Grant program offers one-year awards for up to $50,000. Faculty and staff in all disciplines on all UW campuses are eligible to apply. The WiSys Technology Advancement Grant (WiTAG) program offers a maximum of $50,000 in funding over a one-year period in science and technology fields only. Wisconsin Groundwater Research and Monitoring

This program solicits research and monitoring proposals dealing with groundwater, pesticides, and/or onsite wastewater treatment systems. The following agencies coordinate to create this program: University of Wisconsin System; Department of Natural Resources (DNR); Department of Agriculture, Trade & Consumer Protection (DATCP); and Commerce. Wisconsin Teaching Fellow

The Wisconsin Teaching Fellows group will include outstanding early-career, untenured faculty and teaching academic staff.  Candidates must be exceptional teachers who publicly share their expertise and demonstrate leadership. Growth Agenda: Institutional Change Grants

February 21 (System Deadline); December 2 Required Pre-proposal (to ORSP)
Supports projects that are bold in their vision, designed to transform programmatic or institution-wide practices, and have the potential to be sustained beyond the scope of the grant funding. The program goals are to model Inclusive Excellence and:

  • Increase the number of Wisconsin graduates
  • Help create more well-paying jobs
  • Build stronger communities

Funding requests can vary; however, it is unlikely that any project would receive more than $500,000. Funds may be used to design and implement new projects, or support significant enhancements to existing initiatives. Pilot projects or multi-year initiatives are welcome. Project periods can range from 1-3 years.

If you are interested in this program, submit a 2 page pre-proposal to ORSP by Dec. 2. The pre-proposal should briefly describe the:

  • need
  • alignment with Growth Agenda goals, UWEC's mission, and Inclusive Excellence relationship to Growth Agenda goals and UWEC's mission
  • potential for collaboration with other UWS schools
  • project activities and benefits
  • outcomes
  • budget estimate

UW System limits the number of proposals each campus can submit. Select pre-proposals will be invited to prepare a full proposal for submission, in compliance with the Growth Agenda-Institutional Change Grants limited submission policy.

Provides funding to support a national, regional, statewide meeting or conference that will focus on topics that are aligned with the Growth Agenda for Wisconsin and of critical importance to UW institutions.

Wisconsin Environmental Education Board

Faculty Solid Waste Research Grant

February 20 (System Deadline); February 13 (to ORSP)
Seeks research into alternative methods of solid waste disposal, including the reduction of the amount of solid waste generated, the reuse and recycling of materials, composting, source separation and the disposal of household hazardous waste. Awards are up to $30,000. More information can be found at: http://www.uwsa.edu/oslp/em/swrp/.

Center for 21st Century Studies Fellowships

February 20 (System Deadline); February 13 (to ORSP)
Invites fellows to contribute to the mission to imagine, define, and create the emergent field of 21st century studies, answering the question, "What Should 21st Century Studies Do?" Institute for Research in the Humanities Fellowship

March 1 (System Deadline); February 23 (to ORSP)

Student Solid Waste Research Grant

This program provides an opportunity for undergraduate students interested in research to receive financial support in areas relating to waste reduction, reuse, recycling, composting, solid waste disposal, or disposal of household solid waste. Students from varied disciplines (such as soil, geography, biology, engineering, multimedia digital arts, accounting and sustainable community development) are encouraged to apply.
